MUZICAD

MUZICAD is a KA210 YOU Erasmus+ project developing a practical handbook of music-based, play-oriented games to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Designed for teachers, parents, and professionals, it provides adaptable activities that strengthen communication, social-emotional development, motor skills, and focus through inclusive, easy-to-apply methods created by European partner organizations.

MUZICAD – Autism / Music Game Ideas

Funded by: Erasmus+ Programme (European Union and Turkish National Agency)
Project Type: KA210 YOU

Purpose and Scope

The MUZICAD Handbook is a comprehensive training resource developed for teachers, parents, and professionals working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The project aims to promote music-led adapted learning through play-based games that support the educational, social, and emotional development of children with ASD.

The handbook integrates elements of music therapy, education, physical activity, and social inclusion, offering innovative, inclusive, and enjoyable learning approaches.

Target Groups

The handbook is designed for:

  • Teachers and special educators in autism-specific or inclusive classrooms

  • Parents and caregivers seeking practical at-home support tools

  • Youth workers and volunteers in special needs education

  • Researchers and therapists exploring music-based interventions

Activities are adaptable for individual use or small groups (approximately 6 participants), making them suitable for both classroom and parent–child settings.

Partner Institutions

Coordinator

  • Yeşil Düzce Özel Eğitim Uygulama Okulu III. Kademe (Turkey) – providing autism-focused education since 2007.

Partners

  • Judo Assist Ireland (Ireland) – promoting inclusive sports and physical activity for people with autism

  • Srednja škola Centar za odgoj i obrazovanje (Croatia) – vocational education for students with special needs

  • Des Akçabelen Kultur und Unterstützungsverein e.V. (Germany) – supporting young people with special needs through education and cultural engagement

Concept and Approach

The handbook introduces music-based games structured into three main categories:

  1. Physical Games
Improve rhythm, balance, coordination, and teamwork
(e.g. We Will Rock You, Dancers on the Shrinking Stage)

  2. Social & Emotional Games
Develop communication, empathy, and social interaction
(e.g. Greeting Circle, Rainstorm, Conductor Game)

  3. Multi-Skill Games
Strengthen auditory memory, focus, and cognitive development
(e.g. Sound Matching, Paper Dance, Rhythm Wave)

Each activity includes clear instructions, required materials, adaptations, and expected benefits, supported by video links for practical implementation.

Educational and Therapeutic Benefits

Music-based learning supports:

  • Motor and coordination skills through rhythm and movement

  • Communication and social interaction, both verbal and non-verbal

  • Emotional expression and regulation through musical play

  • Cognitive and sensory integration, including attention, memory, and perception

Principles of music therapy are embedded throughout, creating structured opportunities for self-expression, stress reduction, and social inclusion.

Impact and Vision

The MUZICAD project contributes to inclusive education and community awareness by providing practical, accessible tools for teachers and families supporting children with ASD. It also strengthens European cooperation and promotes shared pedagogical innovation among partner countries.
